Snyder, Lemire, and Azzarello are all great. But you need to read Marvel for Ed Brubaker and Jason Aaron. I WILL CONVINCE YOU TO LOVE JASON AARON AND ED BRUBAKER. :) They have been consistantly excellent for years.
Brubaker has been in my peripheral for a bit. The first comic I ever read by Matt Fraction...

I agree, “event” comics are such a let-down I stopped reading them. In fact, I don’t read any superhero comics from the big two unless they’re written by someone I really like. I think readers get more for their money when they follow writers.

I have to give the nod to DC as far as events go. Marvel hasn’t had one that’s interested me (and held my interest (…I’m looking disapprovingly at you Secret Invasion)) in years. Flashpoint was flawed but interesting and I stand by all the Crises.

Random Post: Event Comics
So I started to try and read Fear Itself, this years “event” from Marvel Comics. Now I haven’t read a current Marvel book. I have gone back and read things that interested me, like The Punisher MAX series, and different odds and ends. But I really haven’t touched a Marvel book in a long time.
It made me think of the biggest trend in comics for a long time coming....
